The Galipaygos are a five piece alt-country\Americana group based in Inverness, Scotland. Formed in 2003, the band has released two albums: Look no Heartbreak (2004) and Trucker Chic (2005). Their influences span the 1960s\1970s country rock of The Byrds, Bob Dylan, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Band; and contemporary Americana acts like Ryan Adams, Calexico and Wilco. Displaying a superb melodic touch, a gift for telling observational detail and a wry sense of humour, their music has drawn comparisons to The Grateful Dead, The Jayhawks and Teenage Fanclub, earning them a healthy live following around the Highlands, and much critical acclaim. Performing across Scotland, the band has supported such acts as The Cosmic Rough Riders, Dogs Die in Hot Cars and King Creosote. Amongst the highlights of their live career to date was a support gig with The Delgados at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, and opening for British Sea Power, Aberfeldy and The Proclaimers at The Beauly based Belladrum Festival. Plans for 2006 include recording their third album, ''The Slow Decline of Gary Lip-gloss'' and appearances at the Tartan Heart, Darvel and Loopallu Music festivals. |
